Statement on protests at John Taolo Gaetsewe Region

25 June 2014

The ANC in the Northern Cape condemns the closing down of schools at the John Taolo Gaetsewe Region. It is unacceptable and unfair that the community should deny children to get education whilst their issues are being given attention by the Premier and the Provincial Government. We therefore plead with the community members that they should not intimidate school children and teachers from the day to day school activities.

The community of John Taolo Gaetsewe recently voted for the ANC and has given the ANC another five years for it to deliver services to them. The ANC will never let our people down. The Premier and her cabinet that is responsible for roads went down to the community and listened to their issues and has promised that it will come back, let our people have faith and wait for service delivery to unfold.

In our elections manifesto we promised that for the next five years, we will provide basic services and infrastructure in all existing informal settlements, strengthen existing forums of people`s participation and enable our people to play a greater role in development through partnerships with a range of community and social organisations.

Our 2014 election manifesto clearly states that in the Northern Cape, infrastructure will be developed to unlock the manganese and iron-ore mining reserves, create jobs in the Province and strengthen economic links with the Western Cape and Eastern Cape through mineral beneficiation. We will like to reiterate that, our people should just be patient with the ANC led government.
